Personal Review

I personally resonated with this film because I am a first-generation Asian-American. My own parents had to refuge in America 45+ years ago and had to build a new life away from the war back in their homeland. The film depicted the realities of living as an Asian in America and the difficulties of social norms being accepted in an Asian household. The daughter, Joy, had a strained relationship with her mother due to her mother's close-mindedness. I appreciated this representation because I know many Asians and Asian-Americans have gone through a similar struggle. In addition to the story, the film itself was beautifully done. Each scene was erratic and wild yet was still handled delicately to display full emotions of all characters.
